Profile

Welcome! :)

My name is Sebastian Kahl and I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Social Cognitive Systems Group led by Prof. Dr-Ing. Stefan Kopp at the CITEC (Cognitive Interaction Technology) at Bielefeld University.

My main research interests lie in the question on how humans form dynamic meaning representations within and without the context of a conversation. Also, I'm interested in creating computational models of the predictive processes underlying our interaction with the world and other social beings. This covers not only humans but also virtual artificial agents and social robots.

In my PhD thesis I have investigated the intra-personal coordination of mentalizing and mirroring processes in the so-called human social brain, as afforded by inter-personal coordination in humans. To that end, I developed a probabilistic and hierarchical model for embodied virtual agents that grounds perception, production and inter-agent coordination on principles of predictive coding, anticipation, and close coupling of perception and production processes.

My background is in Cognitive Science (BSc. from University of Osnabrück) and Informatics (MSc. from Bielefeld University).
